Modular vs Custom Exhibition Stands
The right answer depends almost entirely on how many shows you do a year. We build both, and will tell you which one your calendar justifies.
- Modular: £250–£450 per sqm, reusable, 4–6 week lead time
- Custom: £450–£1,400 per sqm, unique, 10–14 week lead time
- Custom-modular hybrid: reusable core with bespoke feature elements
Whole-life cost, not per-show cost
A custom-modular system costing £70,000 that appears at four shows a year, refreshed with £6,000 of new graphics annually, beats four £35,000 one-off custom builds by a wide margin. Under two shows a year, the storage and refurbishment overhead reverses that.
Where custom still wins
Double-deck structures, unusual footprints, a specific architectural idea central to the brand, and product-hero moments requiring bespoke engineering.
Frequently asked questions
Is a modular exhibition stand cheaper than custom?
Per show, yes — roughly £250–£450 per sqm versus £450–£1,400 for custom. Over three or more shows a year the gap widens further because the modular frame is reused and only graphics are reprinted.
Do modular stands look cheap?
Not any more. Current aluminium frame systems with tensioned fabric, integrated lighting and raised flooring are visually indistinguishable from custom joinery at normal viewing distance.
